A new self · the threshold

Step into a stronger, surer version of yourself.

Saario Academy trains serious practitioners and the instructors who carry the work forward — across six countries and fifty cities, on one disciplined standard.

02 / The soul

Four principles. Structural, not decorative.

01Intuition

Trained instinct

You can only surprise someone once. We drill the reflex that recognises threat early — so the decision is already made when the moment arrives.

02Reality over myth

Scientific & street-true

Every technique is held to two tests: does it hold up under study, and under pressure. If it fails either, it leaves the curriculum.

03Less is more

Three techniques, 1,000 reps

Mastery is not a longer list. It is a short list, executed without thought. We teach few things, and we teach them until they are yours.

04Be first

Decisive initiative

Hesitation is the most expensive habit. We train the bias to act — measured, proportionate, ahead of the moment.

Transmission of knowledge between a senior master and an instructor.
03 / Where this comes from

A line you can trace, not a legend you take on faith.

Master Jyrki Saario trained under Imi Lichtenfeld, founder of Krav Maga; created Defendo; and brought Classic Krav Maga to the Nordics. The academy he founded is now led by Master Instructor Istvan Nagy. The standard is transmitted, in person, one instructor at a time.

Ironman Grappling

Technical ground control taught methodically: position before submission, unhurried, to a single certified standard wherever you train.

  • 01Positional control as the foundation of everything else.
  • 02Methodical, pressure-tested progressions.
  • 03A short, drilled curriculum — depth over breadth.
05 / The path

How far the journey goes — and what each level unlocks.

A persuasive map of the ladder, not a tracker. Where you start, where it leads, and what carrying the standard actually means.

We are not in the business of confidence. We are in the business of capability — and capability is quiet, repeatable, and verifiable.

The hall is deliberately spare. There is nothing here to perform for — only the floor, the work, and the standard everyone in the room is held to.

08 / Questions

Before you apply.

Straight answers. If yours isn't here, get in touch and a senior instructor will reply.

01Do I need prior experience to begin the path?+

No. The path begins at Home Class, where the core curriculum is taught from first principles. What we ask for is commitment to the reps, not a background.

02How long does it take to become a certified instructor?+

It depends on the individual and the track. The ladder is measured in demonstrated capability, not in months. We certify when you are ready, not on a clock.

03Is the standard the same in every country?+

Yes. One curriculum, one examination standard, transmitted in person. A certified club in Helsinki and one in Kraków are held to the same line.

04What happens after I apply?+

Applying or getting in touch hands you to a senior instructor who will place you in the right track and class. From there the work is yours to do.

09 / Take the step

The threshold is in front of you. Step across it.

Begin the instructor path, or get in touch with the academy. We'll place you on the right track and in the right city.
